Chain Helmet Wiki Guide
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a chain helmet with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a chain helmet is an armor item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.
Let’s explore how to add a chain helmet to your inventory.
Where to find a Chain Helmet in Creative Mode
Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac)
Here is where you can find a chain helmet in the Creative Inventory menu:
Platform | Version(s) | Creative Menu Location |
---|---|---|
Java Edition (PC/Mac) | 1.8 – 1.19.4 | Combat |
- Platform is the platform that applies.
- Version(s)Â is the Minecraft version numbers where the item can be found in the menu location listed (we have tested and confirmed this version number).
- Creative Menu Location is the location of the item in the Creative Inventory menu.
How to get a Chain Helmet in Survival Mode
You can add a chain helmet to your inventory in Survival mode by killing a zombie that is wearing one.
If you are having trouble finding a zombie wearing a chain helmet, you can summon one using our summon mob generator.
Once you find the zombie, you need to attack it. When you attack the zombie, it will turn pink as it takes damage.
Continue to chase and attack the zombie. Once you have killed the zombie, it may drop the armor that it is wearing.
Make sure you pick up the chain helmet before it disappears.
A chain helmet is a rare armor item and should be kept in your inventory.

- Minecraft IDÂ is the Internal number for the item.
- Data Value (or damage value) identifies the variation of the block if more than one type exists for the Minecraft ID.
- Stack Size is the maximum stack size for this item. While some items in Minecraft are stackable up to 64, other items can only be stacked up to 16 or 1. (NOTE: These stack sizes are for vanilla Minecraft only. If you are running a mod, some mods may change the stack size for an item.)

Durability
Durability represents how long the item will last. For tools, weapons and transportation, durability is the number of useful actions before the item is destroyed. For armor items, durability is the number of hits (that can be blocked by armor) before the item is destroyed. So the higher the durability number, the longer the item will last.
The following table shows the durability for each helmet/cap in Minecraft:
Item | Name | Durability |
---|---|---|
Netherite Helmet | 407 | |
Diamond Helmet | 363 | |
Turtle Shell | 275 | |
