Copper Block Wiki Guide
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft a copper block with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, a copper block is a new type of block that was introduced in the Caves & Cliffs Update: Part I.
Let’s explore how to make a copper block.
4 Stages of how Copper ages
In Minecraft, copper naturally ages in 4 different stages.
At each stage, the color/appearance of the copper changes as does the block name. Here are the 4 stages of copper aging:
Aging | Block | Appearance |
---|---|---|
First Stage | Copper | Shiny brown |
Second Stage | Exposed Copper | Brown with green flecks |
Third Stage | Weathered Copper | Green with brown flecks |
Fourth Stage | Oxidized Copper | Green |
As the copper ages, the block changes from copper (which is a shiny brown) into exposed copper (which is brown with green flecks). Next, the exposed copper turns into weathered copper (which is green with brown flecks). Finally, weathered copper turns into oxidized copper (which is a solid green color).

How to craft a Copper Block in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid that looks like this:
2. Add Items to make a Copper Block
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make a copper block, place 9 copper ingots in the 3×3 crafting grid.
When making a copper block, it is important that the copper ingots are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 3 copper ingots. In the second row, there should be 3 copper ingots. In the third row, there should be 3 copper ingots. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for a copper block.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the copper block will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Copper Block to Inventory
Once you have crafted a copper block, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
Congratulations, you have made a copper block in Minecraft!
