Elytra Wiki Guide

This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft the elytra (called elytra wings in Pocket Edition and Windows 10 Edition) with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.

In Minecraft, the elytra is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game. Most commonly, the elytra can be found inside the End Ship in the End City.

Let’s explore how to add the elytra to your inventory.

Here is where you can find the elytra in the Creative Inventory menu:

How to get the Elytra in Survival Mode

You can add the elytra to your inventory in Survival mode by finding one in a floating boat (looks like a pirate ship) in the End City. So let’s get started!

1. Go to the End City

The End City is found in the End dimension.

If you aren’t sure how to find the End City, try our tutorial that explains how.

2. Go inside the End Ship

If you go inside the End Ship (looks like a floating boat), you will find the elytra at the front of the boat hanging on the wall in an item frame. There will be a chest on either side of it.

3. Remove the Elytra from the Item Frame

The elytra is a useful transportation item and can be used as wings to fly/glide in the game.

Durability

Durability represents how long the item will last. For tools, weapons and transportation, durability is the number of useful actions before the item is destroyed. For armor items, durability is the number of hits (that can be blocked by armor) before the item is destroyed. So the higher the durability number, the longer the item will last.

The following table shows the durability for the elytra in Minecraft:

Name Durability
Elytra 432

Enchantments for Elytra

Curse of Vanishing Cursed item will disappear after player dies
