Leather Wiki Guide
This Minecraft tutorial explains how to craft leather with screenshots and step-by-step instructions.
In Minecraft, there are two ways to add leather to your inventory. You can either craft this item with a crafting table or you can find and gather this item in the game.
Let’s explore how to add leather to your inventory.

Here is where you can find leather in the Creative Inventory menu:

Required Materials to make Leather
In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to craft leather:
4 Rabbit Hides
How to craft Leather using a Crafting Table in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3×3 crafting grid that looks like this:
2. Add Items to make Leather
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3×3 crafting grid. To make leather, place 4 rabbit hide in the 3×3 crafting grid.
When making leather, it is important that the rabbit hides are placed in the exact pattern as the image below. In the first row, there should be 1 rabbit hide in the first box and 1 rabbit hide in the second box. In the second row, there should be 1 rabbit hide in the first box and 1 rabbit hide in the second box. This is the Minecraft crafting recipe for leather.
Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, leather will appear in the box to the right.
3. Move the Leather to Inventory
Once you have crafted leather, you need to move the new item to your inventory.
Congratulations, you have made leather in Minecraft!
How to get Leather in Survival Mode
You can add leather to your inventory in Survival mode by killing a specific type of mob. So let’s get started!
1. Find a Mob
First, you need to find a type of mob that drops leather when it is killed, such as a cow, horse, donkey, mule, llama or mooshrow.
Â
2. Attack and Kill the Mob
Once you find one of these mobs, you need to attack it. When you attack the mob, it will turn pink as it takes damage.
Continue to chase and attack the mob. Once you have killed the mob, it may drop leather if you are lucky. There isn’t a 100% chance that the mob will drop leather when it dies. If it doesn’t drop leather, find another mob and try again.
3. Pick up the Leather
Make sure you pick up the leather before it disappears.
This is a useful item and should be kept in your inventory.
