Oysters Mod

Oysters Mod (1.18.1, 1.16.5) is a Resource Generation mod that is based on…. oysters.

Oysters Mod (1.18.1, 1.16.5) - Aquatic Themed Resource Generation 1

Overview:

Oysters can be placed on sand or set into an oyster basket and will generate pearls.  You can then add resources to the basket with the right grade of an oyster to attempt to breed an oyster to produce that type of pearl.  Once you are generating resource pearls, you can craft them into that resource.  (Current resources: bone meal, coal, stone, dirt, wood, iron, gold, diamond, lapis, emerald, Redstone, glowstone, ender pearl.  Still adding more types)

Finding Oysters:

Regular Oysters spawn naturally in ocean biomes with sand floors.  They can also be crafted with 9 nautilus shells. Resource oysters do not spawn naturally and must be breed in an oyster basket

Note: Both Oysters and Oyster Baskets must be waterlogged in order to produce pearls. (they have to be underwater)

Oyster Grades:

  • Currently Oyster has three grades.
  • Blemished – Naturally spawns.  Used to mutate: bone meal, coal.  9 blemished pearls in a crafting table make 1 clean pearl
  • Clean – can be mutated by adding clean pearls to a basket with blemished grade oysters.  used to mutate: iron, lapis, Redstone, glowstone. 9 clean pearls in a crafting table make 1 flawless pearl
  • flawless – can be mutated by adding flawless pearls to a basket with clean grade oysters.  used to mutate: gold, diamond, emerald, ender pearl.

Oyster Breeding:

Oyster breeding and oyster mutation have similar mechanics. The mutation will attempt to breed a new resource type of oyster, breeding will attempt to create more of the same type.  To breed more oysters of the same type: simply insert at least two of the same oysters into an oyster basket and leave the other inventory slot empty.  About every minute or so it will attempt to breed another oyster of that type.  This has about a 5% success rate but increases with the number of oysters you have in the basket (stack limit is 8 so the best bet is about 11% success rate).

Oyster Mutation:

In order to breed new types of oysters for resources you need to add at least two oysters(any type of the correct pearl grade) to an oyster basket and in the second inventory’s slot adds the resource of the type of oyster you are attempting to mutate into.  (if you want an iron oyster to add iron ingots and make sure the oyster is clean grade.. you get the idea).  About every minute or so it will attempt to breed a mutated oyster of that type.  This has about a 5% success rate but increases with the number of oysters you have in the basket (stack limit is 8 so the best bet is about 11% success rate).  This will consume 1 resource item for each mutation attempt.  So praying to the RNG gods won’t hurt.  Once you have two of that type of resource, you can add them to the basket and start the normal oyster breeding process defined above

Oyster Pearls:

Oysters will passively generate pearls in their inventory.  resource oysters produce pearls that can be crafted into that resource.  I haven’t decided on a use for regular oyster pearls yet.. thinking some kind of tiered system mechanic for the better resource oysters to gate it a little

Config Options:

  • baseOysterPearlGenTime – the average time it takes an oyster to generate a pearl
  • baseOysterBasketPearlGenTime – the average time it takes an oyster inside an oyster basket to generate a pearl (1 oyster. not an oyster stack)
  • baseOysterBasketPearlMutateTime – the average time it takes oysters in an oyster basket to attempt to mutate
  • mutationChance – the chance that a mutation will succeed into a new resource oyster
