Speciation Resource Pack
Speciation Resource Pack (1.20.6, 1.20.1) introduces an evolutionary twist to Minecraft’s creatures, bringing a fresh and dynamic feel to the game. More specifically, it adds biome-dependent mob variants based on real-life species.
- Added and removed a few splash texts.
- Added a frog skin for snowy biomes, based on a wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus / Rana sylvatica).
- Added a pig skin for deserts, based on the Somali warthog. It looks very similar to the savanna warthog, but browner and with slightly different hair patterns.
- Added a pig skin for mangrove swamps, based on the red river hog. I doubt the irl habitat matches exactly, but it’s the closest I could find.
- Added two spider skins for caves. Above Y=0, they look like European cave spiders. Below Y=0, they’re Kaua’i cave wolf spiders.
- Found and implemented a workaround for the spiders’ eye glow, so now it works in the intended colors. Unfortunately, this also makes the eyes disappear when the spider spawns with invisibility. So if you take seemingly random damage with this pack on, that might be why.
- Added a cow skin for deserts, based on the red fulani.
In general, it is a great and reasonable option for every player to custom the animals in the game without much effort.
