Sword Blocking Combat Mod
Shields really aren’t ideal for combat, so what do we do about that? Well, we just look back at how things used to be before the Combat Update: blocking using a sword. It simply reduces incoming damage by about 50%, it’s quickly accessible, it’s always on hand, and there’s still enough room on your screen to actually see your opponents. What else could you possibly want? Sword blocking anyone? With Sword Blocking Combat Mod 1.15.2, 1.14.4, it’s finally back! The full thing, just like it used to be.

Well, sword blocking is back, what more is there to say really? It looks the same, it functions the same, …it probably even smells and tastes the same. Simply put it’s just as equally awesome as it was back in the day.
Ok, but still here are a couple of notes nonetheless, because some things just had to be adjusted:
- it works with both hands now
- when holding a useable item in the offhand (e. g. food, potions, bow, crossbow, shield, trident) this item will be prioritised over any sword held in the main hand; this is intended to maintain using a sword and shield or bow together as a valid combat option
No idea how sword blocking worked before it was removed in the Combat Update? Alright, here is a quick rundown from the Minecraft Wiki:
- sword blocking allows players to block partial damage from incoming attacks, e. g. arrows and explosions
- this is done by holding down the right mouse button while wielding any type of sword
- blocked attacks deal only about half the damage they normally would
- blocking does not decrease the sword’s durability
- while blocking, the player moves at a speed slower than if they were sneaking
NOTES:
- There is no config file available for such a simple mod (yet). It’s sword blocking, so take it or leave it.
- For this mod to fully function it needs to be installed on both the client and server.
