In Minecraft, water is all around you in the game. Wherever you see a river, lake or ocean, there are water blocks.

Although water is found everywhere in the game, you can not make it with a crafting table or furnace. Water is also not available through the Creative Inventory menu. You can use a water bucket to add water to your world. You can also use a game command such as /fill or /setblock, but you can’t give yourself water with the /give command.

Where to find Water in Creative Mode

Water is not available in the Creative Inventory menu. You must use a game command or a water bucket to get this item.

How to get a Water Block in Survival Mode

You can add water to your world in Survival mode by using a water bucket. So let’s get started!

1. Hold a Water Bucket

First, select a water bucket in your hot bar so that you are holding it in your hand.

2. Use the Water Bucket

Next, position your pointer (the plus sign) on the block where you want to pour the water out of the bucket. The game control to use the water bucket depends on the version of Minecraft:

• For Java Edition (PC/Mac), right click on the block.
• For Pocket Edition (PE), you tap on the block.
• For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, press the LT button on the Xbox controller.
• For PS3 and PS4, press the L2 button on the PS controller.
• For Wii U, press the ZL button on the gamepad.
• For Nintendo Switch, press the ZL button on the controller.
• For Windows 10 Edition, right click on the block.
• For Education Edition, right click on the block.

You should see the water appear on the ground and you will have an empty bucket in your hot bar.

• Stack Size is the maximum stack size for this item. While some items in Minecraft are stackable up to 64, other items can only be stacked up to 16 or 1. (NOTE: These stack sizes are for vanilla Minecraft only. If you are running a mod, some mods may change the stack size for an item.)
• Platform is the platform that applies.
• Version(s) is the Minecraft version numbers that the Minecraft ID and Name are valid for.
